CASTROP FENCE PHASE 1

Posted on: May 12th, 2012 Start the Conversation!

Design Build Adventure is embarking on a four property fence that changes personalities along the way. Phase one is the fence language in it’s simplest form – oil pipe columns, square tube frames with 2″ x 4″ cattle panel on the inside of frame (to allow for client’s reclaimed wood on the sidewalk side in the future). Cattle panel provides immediate security and after wood is installed will be for climbing vines.

Phase two starting Monday – the panel will double and widen to 16″ to become gabion basket (stay tuned)

AUSTIN AIRSTREAM AND FUNKY CHICKEN COOP TOUR

Posted on: February 25th, 2012 Start the Conversation!

Two weeks to get this Airstream to the airport.

We are lucky to have been working since January 1 on the demolition, design, build, adventure of a 1976 Airstream Sovereign for the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau.  The trailer will debut at the airport on March 8, then move to SXSW Interactive, then another venue for SXSW Film / Music / Gear, and then settles down at Spillar Welding for new electric braking and hitch.

We are excited about the waxed paint grip interior, and to see images from the the time lapse (bird cam) camera that has taken a photo every thirty minutes.

Design Build Adventure loves chickens.  Check out the coop we did last year (with William Scoular and his chickens) on Austin’s Funky Chicken Coop Tour.  The tour is on April 7th from 10 am to 4 pm.  Our newest adventurer, Adrian Larriva, is getting trained as a chicken docent at Callahan’s the week before / to help spread the word of the urban chicken.  Join us .

Here is a link to the Central Texas Gardener interview that will give you more info about the tour and you can see photo of one of our greatest achievements – the chicken chute at 2:05 in the video clip .

Design Build Adventure sad to lose Erik Mahan

Posted on: July 6th, 2011 Start the Conversation!

Erik Mahan

8 weeks ago I was contacted by a young man (recent UT Austin grad) that wanted to develop his construction skills with Design Build Adventure before heading to Cambodia with the United States Peace Corps. Despite his inability to operate a cordless drill upon arrival, he showed great Adventure potential both with his upcoming commitment to the Peace Corps, and his affection for lengua tacos …

In just 8 short weeks, Erik overcame his cordless drill issues and actually developed intoa pretty skilled metal worker.  He can cut steel, grind steel, brush steel, clamp it, drill it, carry it, and paint it.  He even welded a little bit (see new Mohawk doors).  He only cut himself once and
I think it was with a flat head screwdriver opening a paint can.  He took the bus to work, and was paid a very modest stipend plus as many lengua tacos or Arkie’s chicken fried steaks as he could eat.

Today was Erik’s last day … and he will be greatly missed. Cambodia, put him work! We are also now searching to fill his position at Design Build Adventure. We offer a variety of internship and apprenticeship opportunities. Contact me.

I promise not to “pull any punches” , and treat these jeans like the rest of them -
however , I have also agreed to go as long as I can without washing them …
